For the Talents
Submitted by JCL on Mon, 02/22/2010 - 00:37.Located at the prime land of Singapore, standing 11-storey tall in Dhoby Ghaut, approximately 50,000 m2 in gross floor area, is the permanent campus for the School of the Arts (SOTA). This is Singapore’s first pre-tertiary specialised arts school. It is also here that Jurcem® Skimcoat Plaster’s artistic characteristic is clearly demonstrated.
The smooth thin layer of Jurcem® Skimcoat Plaster filled the surroundings with a natural concrete finish from the walls to the beams, creating a basic and yet an artistic milieu for inspiring talents. The coating of Jurcem® Skimcoat Plaster is superbly easy to apply. Just mix about 12.8 to 14.4 litres of water to every 40kg bag of Jurcem® Skimcoat Plaster, it can cover approximately 33m2 of substrates if applied in 1 mm thickness. In SOTA, approximately 387,750 m2 of area was covered with Jurcem® Skimcoat Plaster.

Clean and Sustainable
Submitted by JCL on Mon, 12/21/2009 - 00:26.What seemed to be routine and monotonous to most; what has appeared to be taken granted of and also neglected by many, can be different for a passionate team that is fully committed to sustainable behaviours.
Now

Then

Commonly practised in the industry for years, JCL, likewise, dumped its concrete that were discharged from the washing mixer trucks drums at the disposal yard. The quantity when accumulated could be quite substantial and was considered as a wastage and abuse of natural resources. Fortunately, this phenomenon was changed with the installation of recycling machine.
The recycling was installed at the former JCL washing bay. The core function is to collect, segregate and reuse the water, coarse and fine aggregates obtained from the washing of the concrete mixer trucks. By using the grey water collected from the sedimentation pit and aggregates segregated by the recycling machine, in the concrete production again, this has helped to conserve natural resources.
To conserve more, JCL has also implemented the use of high pressure jet spray. This uncomplicated initiative has helped JCL reduced water consumption effectively 20 times less than before. Not only did it help to conserve water, it has also helped the drivers get their mixer trucks cleaned with great ease in less time, as well as achieved the pleasingly spick and span that JCL is extremely proud of. On long term, with better upkeeps of the mixer trucks, it also entails that there would be less cost incurred for maintenance.
Spraying using high pressure jet

These great efforts and superb drive are paradigm of JCL in undertaking its full commitment to sustainable behaviour.
Construction of Punggol Dam
Submitted by JCL on Tue, 11/24/2009 - 23:48.Punggol Dam is sited at the tip of Punggol river mouth. The cost for building this dam was about S$65 million which included the construction of four tidal gates, other associated structures and related works.
JCL is very honoured to be working hand in hand with Shimizu Corporation, the main contractor of this esteemed project. JCL High Performance Concrete was specifically used for the dam structures that called for:
- durability;
- control of thermal cracking, arising from heat of hydration of cement resulting in temperature rise and the thermal strains in the concrete elements;
- control of elevated concrete temperature at an early age that may cause impairment to concrete strength.
